The JBCP Team
The JBCP Team
JBCP employs a team of psychologists who have a minimum of 6 years full-time university training and 1000 hours of supervised experience before joining our team. All psychologists are fully registered by the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA) under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009. Clinicians are supervised both individually and as a team by the principal psychologist, John Blythe, as well as by other senior staff.
JBCP is a training clinic for intern psychologists from local universities who are completing their fifth or sixth year of training. Occasionally, we may ask your permission for interns to observe or assist with aspects of assessment and treatment.

Why are you a Child Psychologist?: Because life is wonderful but also very difficult at times. Through it all, people are amazing. Sometimes we just need another person to help us see the truth, wisdom and strength that are available to us but we can't quite see yet. I love being able to help in that process, especially with kids, teens and parents, because the changes we can make early on will last for a lifetime.

Why are you a Child Psychologist?: There are a billion reasons why I think working with children and their families is the best job in the world. Children are fun, creative, resilient, and motivated – qualities I strive to match in my clinical work. Every day brings its own unique set of challenges and rewards when you work with children. Every presentation requires a novel outlook and treatment approach, as while the underlying difficulties may be the same, treatments are always most effective when they’re engaging, creative, and tailored to a child’s individual personality and interests.

Why are you a Child Psychologist?: from a very early age, I found myself wanting to help others. From the kid that was getting bullied behind the demountables, to the kid that was struggling with their English essay. Being a child psychologist is one of the most challenging and rewarding professions that allows a person the honour of sharing someone's story and assisting them with grasping and utilising strategies and tools that they didn't even think were possible. Seeing the progress and outcome that an individual makes through this journey is consistently awe inspiring!

Why are you a Child Psychologist?:Growing up brings along various challenges in each and every individual. I find great satisfaction in helping children and their families to uncover the difficulties that are unique to one child's development/circumstances and accordingly help them to manage, adjust and overcome. Why are you a Child Psychologist?: Mental health difficulties are common - it might be what happens to us, what we learn, or what we're born with. The earlier we learn how to manage these issues, the greater impact on our trajectories through life.
